MGs Kitchen

Named in honour of music industry legend Michael Gudinski who was a mentor to TBU’s founder & CEO Justin Dickinson. MG’s kitchen has a rock & roll pedigree, complete with signed platinum albums from Michael’s pool of stars and touring acts, a DJ Console in the volunteer mess area and cool tunes playing constantly as a backdrop to the kitchen action.

MG’s kitchen opened in April 2021 in the middle of the pandemic and has been humming ever since providing Melbourne’s best free meals. Purpose designed and built, MG’s kitchen was literally built with love and kindness. Generous trades donated their time and much of the equipment was donated from partners such as LUUS Melbourne.

TBU’s Chef and crew of team leaders skillfully and patiently guide teams of corporates and volunteers in using rescued food to create restaurant quality meals. Much like Master Chef, each cooking day sees the kitchen team create over 250 meals from scratch in a 3 hour window. Dishes are plated up and tasted by the kitchen team before the TBU truck is packed with the meals bound for street service in Federation Square or state-wide for emergency relief efforts.

Food cooked with love, served with kindness

MG’s kitchen will extend it’s operating hours to include zero waste, sustainable and special event cooking classes as well as corporate and private catering.
