Melbourne is plagued by homelessness, with record number of people sleeping rough every night, our city is lost of a new direction.
TBU believes that if we can gain axcess to a building in the CBD that is currenly not been used or is vacant for the next 6 months, we will set up a 100 bed emergancy drop in centre for the homeless. A temperary arrangment for 3 to 6 months, then moved to the next building and so on.
The idea is simple, the drop in opens at 7pm and closes at 7am. Anyone can come and get a warm safe bed for the night, some good food and a chat to our friendly volunteers.
A hard line must to taken by the council that no one is to sleep in the the doorways of buildings, in alleys or on the streets of the CBD, and everyone is a given a “bed & meal” ticket for the night, providing a warm safe alliterative.
Drop-in centres are a good place to cool your heels for a while, grab a coffee and a shower, wash some clothes and have a look at what’s on offer. They will normally have meals available for free or a couple of dollars. You may want to have a yarn to a duty worker and tell them a bit about your circumstances and what your immediate needs are, and they will steer you in the right direction. If you are moving around a bit they will hold your mail for you, as long as collect it every week.
We Believe that by partnering with a major building company or property development companies that we can achieve this goal quickly and effectively. Strong partnerships with Melbourne City Mission, Oz harvest, Orange Sky laundry and the shower bus.
Volunteers are the heartbeat of our organisation
